ABOUT THE MUSIC
The prelude for this Sunday is “The Tree Of Life My Soul Hath Seen”, an Epiphany carol by English composer Elizabeth Poston (1905-1987).
The offertory is “Spirit Of God, Descend Upon My Heart” by Irish composer George Croly (1780-1860). In our Gospel lesson, God’s spirit descended on Jesus at His baptism. May God’s spirit descend on our hearts this day. As the song is played, please read the words below in meditation.
The postlude is “Worthy Is the Lamb” from “The Messiah” by German-English composer George Frideric Handel” (1685-1759 A). Terry Foster, Church Musician
SPIRIT OF GOD, DESCEND UPON MY HEART
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart.
Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move.
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art
and make me love Thee as I ought to love.
Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love—
one holy passion filling all my frame;
the kindling of the heaven descended dove,
my heart an altar and Thy love the flame.
Annual Meeting following the service January 26th. Hope to see you there. Important information from The Rev. Michael Ambler.
